Irate fans crowd street after Lil Boosie cancels concert

Omaha police briefly closed the intersection of 13th and Martha Streets to help remove a large crowd of concertgoers at Sokol Underground after the show’s headliner abruptly canceled.

Omaha police briefly closed the intersection of 13th and Martha Streets to help remove a large crowd of concertgoers at Sokol Underground after the show’s headliner abruptly canceled.

Police said about 900 people were told to leave the venue about 11 p.m. Friday after it was announced that rapper Lil’ Boosie was a no-show.

A few irate fans ripped a ticket booth out of a wall, said Gary Masek, president of Sokol Omaha Inc.

“There were some pretty mad people here,” Masek said.

Two people were ticketed for disorderly conduct, police said.

Masek said he did not know if concert promoters planned to refund the $30 tickets. That charge covered the scheduled Lil’ Boosie appearance as well as several other bands on the bill that showed up.

Six off-duty Omaha police officers were at the concert working security, and a private security team also was on hand, Masek said.

Dozens of police officers were called to the scene to help with crowd control after it was announced that the rapper would not perform. Police “didn’t want any problems and that’s the way to do it — disperse in a hurry,” Masek said.

No injuries were reported, police said.
