Rap-A-Lot Records rap veteran Scarface, returns with a new album and a title that all southern rap fans hope is not the last album for the rap “Mayor” of Houston.

Emeritus begins with Rap-A-Lot Records CEO J. Prince airing out some harsh feelings about some individuals that he gives the title of “Rats” and “Snitches”. Oh and Scarface approved this message as if it was a presidential campaign infomercial.

The album quickly goes into the first single that was released off the album titled “High Powered”. This song which features the “Island Crooning” sounds of Papa Reu, is in my opinion is one of the grittiest singles released this year. Scarface belts out driven lyrics like “I Cock the chrome 45 under pressure and then address ya, and have you froze on a stretcher”. This track clearly addresses the critics accusations of Face snitching.

Tracks like the Cool and Dre produced “Forgot About Me” which features Bun B and Lil Wayne, signify a legend basking in his superiority. One of the albums standout songs is “Can’t Get Right” featuring Bilal. This street single produced by Nottz has an eerie tone to the hook in which Bilal delivers an exceptional vocal. The video for this song is produced by Texas go to guy Mr. Boomtown. The video has already been released on numerous sites on the internet.

Fellow “H-Town” representative Z-Ro and The Product, whom are under Face’s tutelage, lend a hand on a “Soldier’s Story”. This is one of the more mellow songs on the album however it has a clear message of street mentality.

Scarface definitely meant business with the release of “Emeritus”. This is one of the few albums to be released lately that is an easy listen the whole way through. In my opinion some of the artists of today’s time should take note from one of the greatest [Scarface] on how to put together a masterpiece album project. If this is the last album from Face, the album was definitely titled correctly. Let’s just hope for the sake of Southern Hip Hop that it isn’t the last we’ve heard from the “Southern Rap President” Scarface.
